Malaysia
is a country with rich culture. The population is made of mainly Malay, Chinese
and Indians. Malaysian food, of course is very much reflective of the diversity
of the people staying here.
"Lemang"
is my favorite food in Malaysia. It is a combination of glutinous rice and
coconut milk that is pushed into the cavity of a bamboo joint is lined with
banana leaves. The filled bamboos are then placed standing up nearly vertically
in a row, and placed over a slow burning wood fire so that the filling cooks or
"roasts". It takes a lot of practice and patience to obtain an evenly
cooked "Lemang". The whole process usually takes about 3-4 hours. It will
be more delicious when you eat it with rendang ayam. You will feel grateful to
be born in Malaysia because Malaysia is full with a thousand of food.
My
father made the best “Lemang” because I think it is the most
delicious “Lemang” I have ever eaten. It is full of moist because of the coconut milk and glutinous rice are in the right amount. It is not too dry like
most of the “Lemang” that I usually had. I would only eat my father’s “Lemang”. My father always get a good review from everyone. My father usually make "Lemang" on Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Haji. All of my relatives and my neighbours would order "Lemang" from my father because he made the best "Lemang" ever. He would also make "Lemang Jagung" and "Lemang Kacang". His "Lemang Jagung" is the best seller.
If you guys are wondering how to make "Lemang", here is the recipe that you can try it at home.
I'm going to insert some pictures of my father making the "Lemang" this year at our house.
